I'm applying for a wee job!

...at our local library. I've always wanted to be a librarian

They are looking for sick leave cover and want to employ a pool of people to call on as and when, for about three hour stints. This would suit me fine as my mum lives around the corner from the library and would have ds whilst I was there.

It would be nice to be doing something other than just being at home and the money won't go amiss either! I spoke to the head librarian today (I know her well because we use the library loads) and she was really thrilled that I was going to apply

oh and there is no sitting round reading lots of books. Last time I was in some druggie verbally abused one of the librarians and punched another customer so it's not the walk in the park some people think it is!! (sorry bit of a bugbear of kine!!)

oops, have killed this thread. Didn't mean to put a dampener on your news

don't worry compo, you didn't! Doesn't sound like much fun though, dealing with druggies . Don't think that would happen out here but I suppose you never know.

Will let you know how I get on!

Good luck MIstleAOU! I know someone who is now working in a library having changed career since having children and she enjoys it. She works in a busy village library and they are near the local school so I think the children use it a class at a time sometimes. I've also been there when they've had authors come to read a story and answer questions and when they've done story times for children. When I was there a few months back, there was a project done by the local schoolchildren on the wall and it was very impressive. (Not impressive as in me being snooty, just really good drawings and neat handwriting and excellent research.) Sorry, I'm going on and on, aren't I! They also have a computer there for locals to use and have a display from time to time which is often done by the village history society or something. So it's a library with lots of extra things going on.

Sounds pretty similar to ours, Ivor! It is actually part of the same building as the high school, newly built about three years ago. It is round (!), light and airy, and they get lots of visiting authors, schoolchildren, book events etc. Am getting quite excited about it already.

Ooh! Tell us if you do decide to go for it and if you get an interview. We will then give you the benefit of our expertise and can cross our fingers for you. I love the excitement of interviews (for others, not me!) and what do I wear, what do I say, etc!
