Phasing-In after maternity leave

Hello all you Mums
I recently gave birth to my 1st son, Edward, and will be returning to work in January. I've heard somewhere that if you haven't taken your full AML that you can 'Phase-In' to your old job (i.e pick and chose your days and hours) until your AML finishes. Does anyone know anything concrete about this or advise me of a suitable website to check up on it?
Hoping to hear from someone
Vander

I used my anual leave that I had built up on OML to work reduced week. Did mon, Tues, Thur,Fri for a month, then did that alternate weeks then i'm still using up leave with odd days when i need a rest and long weekends. I've still got to use up some time to leave the required balance of AL left after christmas. Been back at wwork 3 months full time pay but not done a full week yet!!! baby either sick or managed to give me some lurgy from nursery (got sent home from the hospital with conjunctavitis last week - baby ok, my eye was a mess!)

Thanks Woosmummy. I'm speaking to my employer tomorrow so hopefully we'll be able to sort something out. I'm just a bit peed off because when I told my employer I was pregnant she was all for me working from home 1 or 2 days a week. Then I think she panicked and completely went back on her word . I guess I'm still hoping there might be a chance ... if not, I guess I was hoping that the phasing-in theory will work. We'll see!

I think this is a really good idea. I went back last week, part-time, and it is a big adjustment but everyone says it gets better. Phased return has really worked for colleagues in my work place. Hope it all works out.

You have the right to phase back into work if you return during your AML. You don't have to agree to final working hours and terms until the end of your AML. I am planning on going back 2 and then 3 days a week and up to 4 by the end of my AML.
