Did anyone see this programme last night on channel 4. What did you think.

I thought some of the children were lovely and some were truely obnoxious. I suppose that would be true if you randomly picked 10 children with an IQ of 100.

One thing worried me is when a family has one gifted child and then they completely and utterly ignore the needs of the non gifted sibling. Ie. moving six times to benefit the gifted child is bad for the non gifted child. The family that gave loads of presents to their kid for passing the 11 plus gave me the creeps. What would happen if one of their kids experienced failure? Would the poor kid go out and commit suicide?

My own son is not gifted and talented. He is in a normal reception class and doing nicely inspite of a having quite a large hearing loss. I suppose it could be argued that he has been hot housed as he had nhs physio, speech theraphy and audiology to help him. I also wonder what the definition of true giftedness is.

The couple who have the four children, the ones with the double barrelled surname who 'have an obligation to society to provide the future's politicians, doctors, lawyers etc' are in one of the papers today, they've each (the Dad and Mum) abandoned seven children between them from previous marriages. Their 'first' children, now adults, have spoken out saying how they walked out of the respective marital homes saying that they wanted nothing more to do with their ex wife/husband or the children. The man, Peter, left three lovely girls, and has been quoted as saying 'they're not my children.'

Perhaps they weren't bright enough....
