Just had my second son and all going ok apart from my nips are just killing me! I do remember it hurt for a week last time but I wanted to know if anyone had any advice on what can soothe cracked nipples.
i don't think they are as bad as they could be but I am starting to dread feeds as I wince with pain.
any ideas?

Dab them with a little breast milk, then leave to air dry. Don't leave them to sit in damp breast pads as it doesn't give them a chance to heal. Another soother is to cleanse them with chamomile tea, again, leave to air dry.

Barrier creams can be useful to prevent them from becoming soggy but I personally didn't find Kamillosan any good for it, plus it interfered with latch on when I didn't manage to wipe it all off.

I second Lansinoh !!! was very close to cracked nipples and then used the cream - lots after each feed and its worked wonders. really sooths and toughens up the skin.

expensive stuff though but you don't have to worry about washing it off before feed baby...

With ds1 I had horrendous cracked nipples. I used some stuff called Jelonet and Lansinoh. Check out the link from 2003....

lansinoh is the best - very expensive at nearly £10 but worth it. for ds3 i managed to get it on prescription. phone midwife to see if she could arrange for the prescription and in the meantime phone one of the midwives to see if they could drop some over tonight for you - they usually carry samples with them. don't wait, they will take it seriously as feeding your baby is urgent and that is what they are there for. it makes such a difference. xx
