Follwing on from 'colds at school' thread - should dd go to nursery with bad cough?

tried posting on the end of the other thread but no replies yet and need to get off computer and into bath... here's my previous post:
what would you do about coughing on top of a cold? dd was up most of the night last night coughing (dry cough) and she stayed off nursery today with dh who had a day off anyway. if she stays off tomorrow it means i take the day off to stay with her. this really isn't a problem but what would you advise re other kids at her nursery being exposed to her? Is a cough seen as worse than a kid with a cold being sent to school /nursery? sorry to sound a bit thick but she's not been ill very often at all so i don't really know what to do for the best. she's pretty ok in herself, i would say but is coughing very frequently and i spose must be very tired from the lack of sleep.

Personally, if she's happy in herself, send her in. As long as there's no temperature or vomiting. Probably do her good to be occupied. If you think she's too tired though, pamper her a little at home (don't tell my darlings I said that) and let her catch up on sleep. Wishing her better.

she's happy enough, although not 100% herself, but she's literally coughing every minute or two. i'm worried that she'll try to race round like she normally does and have a coughing fit then they'll all think i'm horrible at nursery for sending her in. she seemed fine when i came home today but that may be because she'd been on the sofa with dh all day watching cbeebies.

Last time Lottie had a cough like a cross between a sealion and a donkey (!) I kept her off tbh, just didn't feel right but did wonder if it was a bit ott. However she has a bit of a runny nose and I sent her in. At the end of the day if it's not a problem to take the time off and if she's not sleepy as well due to coughing then maybe stay off with her, curl up on the sofa and enjoy!

It doesn't matter if they think that you're horrible, you know that you're not. As Thomcat says, if it doesn't bother you to be off (and it's easily arranged) then just hang out together. Sometimes it's really nice to be with just one child.

i keep dd off nursery when she has a cough, as the last time i sent her in they call me to collect her as she was distressed, and they werent 100% sure if her asthma was being affected. she scared the other kids too as well (dd1 coughing fits can last for 20-30mins at times).

I'd send mine to Nursery with a cough (unless she was really miserable and under the weather with it) - but then she doesn't have asthma like misdee's dd

ds2 gets horrible coughs which last for ages. I usually keep him off for a day or 2 and see how he is in himself. Then I take him in to nursery and tell them the situation and ask them to call me if they think he's off colour - i.e. tired, grumpy, clingy.

I'm a SAHM, so it's easy to keep him home if I have a slight doubt ( used to work though, so know how needing to take a day off can make you think twice about whether they are really too ill to go to nursery)
