Am a regular poster but don't really want to be identified tonight. Basically I have two dc youngest one is 11m. I have had two sections and I know the advice is to wait at least 18m-2 years before another one, however as a result of failed contraception i have a niggling suspicion i may be pregnant, too early to test but will know at some point in this coming week. Dh a bit of a problem as has previously said he only wants 2. I ahve always wanted 3. Other more serious issues around this are i am due to go in to hospital on Nov 8th for a lap chole as have had very bad gall bladder problems over the summer and I am very overweight. i know it's all a bit pie in the sky until I know but has anybody had any experience with close sections and or been very overweight at the time. thanks in advance.

I don't have any experience of your situation theremaybetroubleahead, so don't feel much able to give advice.
The only thing i can say, is take it one step at a time. Firstly you need to find out if you ARE pregnant.
Silly thing to say really, but you could be worrying about nothing.
If you ARE, then it is time to speak to someone who is in the know about yourr health problems.
I know this is what you know already, but don't know how else to advise xx

Hi theremaybetrouble. Have changed my name too as I hate confessing my weight!

My second child was unplanned (became pregnant when ds1 was 15 months). Had c sections with both. Tried to deliver normally second time - but didn't manage it.

I was VERY overweight when I became pregnant the second time - weighed 18 st 1lbs.

Miraculously, I only put on 11lbs during the pregnancy and gave birth to a nearly 9lb baby!

I didn't really eat differently and had huge cravings for full fat milk. Can only think that my metabolism was going like the clappers.

I will be honest with you and say I found the 2nd pregnancy VERY tough going, mainly due to my weight and did have a few problems. However, it was all ok in the end and a year and a bit on, I am losing weight (currently 16st 3lbs) and things are ok.

Good luck, keep us posted

I don't mind admitting my weight, I was over 19 stone when I became pregnant with my dd.

Despite some negative comments from one particular midwife, my weight was never an issue, and I wasn't weighed once whilst I was pregnant. I was monitored fairly closely, but this was because of my age (I was 38) not my weight. I did develop gestational diabetes, which was probably due to my weight, but it also meant I had to be a bit more careful about what I ate, which was probably no bad thing!

I didn't put on any weight at all right up until the last two weeks of my pregnancy, partly due to incessant morning sickness and probably partly because controlling my blood sugar meant I was controlling my eating a little more, too. No-one was too concerned about my not gaining weight as, being overweight, I had plenty in reserve, so to speak!

My dd was 8lb 7oz, disgustingly healthy, despite the paediatrician's warning that she could be born with diabetes or end up obese later on. She has no health problems, and at nearly 3 and a half she is a normal weight. Although it's getting more difficult to keep up with her now, so some of this weight has got to go!

The C-section was no worse for me than I understand it to be for anyone else, and at no time did anyone mention that my weight could be a problem with this procedure.

was very overweight when I had dd - by c-section... now no2 is due any day but dd was about 18 months old when no2 was conceived... I had also lost about 2 stone prior to falliong pregnant with no2. Can't remember what I weighed but no one said anything about my weight either time, have never been weighed during either pregnancy.... was tested both times for Gest. diabetes due to my age and BMI - both test clear - in fact my blood pressure etc is the best it ever is when I am pregnant. It looks like no2 will be approx 8lb 10 oz born....and no problems with anything else.

I am hoping to have a vbac with no2 for personal reasons.... my caesar did not take long to recover from - had very few painkillers etc.

But as someone else said - first thing - work out if you are pregnant and then take it from there with regards to everything else.

wish you luck

I can only add my tuppence worth re. section. I got pregnant when dd was 12 months old (em section) and went on to have a planned section no probs. Guidlines then were to wait 9-1`8months, i think (this was 5 years ago now, god I feel old!)

I've no experience of a c-sect but I was very overweight when I became pregnant (and put on over 2.5 stones ) and sailed through it really apart from ligament pain and other 'minor' pregnancy grumbles that everyone gets. My biggest problem was my horrible mw but I think I was just unlucky as I met others who were lovely and never mentioned my size. I now have a beautiful 4-month ds. Yes statistics show that you may have a greater chance of getting gestational diabetes/high blood pressure yada yada yada. But do all the 'normal' weight women have 'perfect' pregnancies cos they are not big? Of course not! Have a look here at this site . It's a US one but has lots of advice and positive experiences. Good luck!
