sore & disappearing lady garden??? oh the embarresment!

Firstly sorry for the namechange but there is no way on gods earth, I'd discuss this with my real mn name!

For approx a year I've suffered with dry & itchy skin around my nether regions.
Skin has become very dry recently and has gone a darker colour from the rest and now have noticed my lady garden is thinning!

It is constantly itchy and can't face going to the docs, I'll die of embarresment

I'm going bald down there....and dh thought he had probs with thinning hair!

honestly - GP won't bat an eyelid and will have seen far more extreme cases...it is horrid going but you will feel so much better if you do.

So I've given up wearing knickers (hurrah instant air conditioning).

If you are really concerned about your GPs opinion of your lady garden, cut the hedge and install a water feature before your appointment LOL

its all clean and sweet smelling...but I'm getting a bit worried now about it and it so embarrasing, its reducing me to tears atm.

Don't cry - call your GP surgery and ask about well women clinics in your area if you don't want to go there. Chances are, it's a really minor skin complaint that can be fixed up tickedy boo in five days.

Did the darker colour come on after childbirth by chance and are you bfing? It can be a hormone issue (in which case it'll get better, or not as your hormones settle).

I can't belive I'm letting it get to me yet I'm too scared to go to the gp's fs!

Blimey GibbonInARibbon, I'd heard a bit of stretching of that area was normal in childbirth....but if you can get yours over your head, maybe you should see the doc too

HI,

I have had similar prob, it was dermatitis, got some cream to apply, and a cream to wash with instead of soap.

Am totally avoiding normal soaps, shower gels, for 'there'

I had never heard of dermatitis below, but after a google found it could be that, and my gp confirmed this.

I had has treatment for thrush but it made no difference, and the swab showed no other infections.

so please go and be checked, its so norm for the gp's.

Could be psoriasis (spelling?!) I suffer from that in a lot of places including DOWN THERE and it is v itchy. Please go to the docs because there are some great creams that will really help. If skin is v flaky and itchy I find sudocrem to be great.

Its a relief to know that others have had similar probs and I'm not a complete freak!

I'm going to try and stop crying now, seem no have done nothing bu cry tonight since I've finally admitted to myself that I need to get his sorted out now.

Google something called lichen sclerosis, get a mirror and have a good look - just make sure you can rule LS out because it is a real bummer and health professionals have almost never heard of it.

Ok I am not a doctor (or medical at all in fact) but I think this sounds distinctly like lichen planus. I've just googled it and it does sound like a possibility. Hope you got on ok with the GP it is horrid going for these sorts of things.

My SIL has lichen sclerosis. I have to admit, your symptoms sound very similar to hers.

well been to gp's, only got to see the locum who didn't look a day over twenty!.

Says its dermititis, aggrevated by a fungal infection. It was so embarressing, I could have died.
Given me cream to put on twice daily and should clear up in 5-10days.
But shouldn't anything fragranced down there from now on or it will flare up the dermititis.

Well done for going. It's bloody horrible having to bare your bits, but fingers crossed that it starts to get better now.

well done, yes, I ws given cream, and one to wash with too. Guess you could see how it goes with the cream to apply.

I am now v careful what products i use.
