PMS ... is it just me?

In the days leading up to my period and during I become so low. It's like a wave of depression comes over me, I'm tearful, over sensitive, irrational and I fly off the handle at the slightest thing. I also really try to avoid seeing people (friends & family) because I just can't cope, at that time, with daily life. I have three small children, the youngest of which (19 months) does not sleep very well and that doesn't help. But I know it really affects me & my family. I am on the contraceptive pill but I took a break for a year and I still had the same feelings. I have spoken to my doctor about it a couple of times and they have changed my pill twice but that also hasn't helped. Does anybody out there suffer the same?

Definitely not just you, OP. In fact my PMS apart from all the moody shenanigans led to insomnia which led to a sleepless week which invariably fucked up half the month for me and ultimately led to anxiety and depression. I was prescribed sertraline and it helped a great deal. It's quite common to have it described for PMS, as I understand it.

Interestingly, I've come off it and my PMS is a lot better. Only a couple of days of rage. Much more manageable for everyone involved. Grin

I get it really badly too. I've given up chocolate, cakes etc this month (really hard as I'm addicted to the stuff) and I'm eating lots of multi grain crackers, houmous, hard boiled eggs etc to keep me full and avoid spikes in my blood sugar. Early days but it's definitely helping my irritability and brain fog
