For the last two mornings I have woken up with several blister type bumps on my legs and bum which are really itchy.

I thought it was a bug bite but I stripped my bed and inspected it yesterday and put new sheets on.

Today I have woken up with the same symptoms. Can anyone advise? The ones on my bum are massive. I've attached a photo of the small ones on my thigh.

I would say hives (urticaria). Try taking an antihistamine . Have you changed the washing powder? Try changing pyjama bottom tonight.

Thanks for the reply. I'll try your suggestion. I have just changed my washing powder to fairy as I have just had a baby. Might change back to the cheap powder for my clothes.

Fairy often causes a reaction in people.

If you want to just use one brand for both of you, try a non-bio one like Persil.

If it makes your body react this way, I wouldn't use it for a baby to be honest. Go for a less scented brand or even an organic eco. If it is just the washing, unless the hives are scratchy, you don't need to take anything, they will go away. Change your sheets to some old ones at the bottom of your linen cupboard which you haven't washed for a while, so they still have the old powder residue.
Another option would be to rinse them twice at least and use a lot less powder.

Congratulations on new baby!!

It's hives/urticaria. Antihistamine cream from chemist works well.

It's now progressed to this size - does it still look like hives? I put some old pyjamas on but I can't be 100% sure if they've been washed since I got the new powder.

I will definitely be changing the washing powder for babies clothes too as a precaution now. I had done some googling for the best powder for babies and fairy was the recommended one but it's a bit worrying if it's causing such a reaction.

Yes, still the same thing. You might want to get some antihistamine tablets. You could get some 1% hydrocortisone cream for the itch.

Hives can come as a rash, a raised area, and it can come and go very quickly and sometimes in the worst cases, need a few days and oral cortisone. But judging from the pictures, it is hives, but very mild. DS2 had very scary reactions sometimes and would be covered head to toes in them anda couple of times on his torso it would be very thick and raised.
Hives are an inflammatory reaction, so you could also take some ibuprofen to lessen them. You need now to keep clear of the allergen.

I would suggest a big laundry washing tomorrow. Not with necessarily your old powder but a double rinsing of what you have.

Takes this incident as an awareness that you are sensitive to strong detergent (could be the perfume, could be one of the chemical ingredient). I think investigating it would bring you nowhere, as it is often the case with allergies, but try to buy from now on sensitive skin products or organic. Stick with brands that work for you, give away the others.

Yep that looks like classic hives. Anti histamines will bring it right down, either tablets or cream.

hives, and they can be a reaction to something you ate up to as far back as 4 days ago or something topical or environmental.
heat will make them worse (so refrain from taking a hot shower).
