Progesterone only pill & Migraines?

Does anyone know if the progesterone only pill can be taken if you have migraines? I have a Drs appt on Friday & while I'm there I'd thought I'd ask. I don't need it for contraception but I'm wondering if it would stop the migraines I get twice a month on the day before my period & on the 5th day. I assume it's the drop in hormone causing it so wondered if I continually took to POP it would stop them. I do suffer with depression & also hair loss so I don't know if it would affect that.

I was told it's fine to take with migraines. Some people find it helps with the migraines as it stops th big hormonal surges which can be such a trigger for us. However, I stopped taking it after a few months because I felt it made me a bit moody and depressed. Other women have no problems with it, though.

The Mirena coil has a much lower dose of the same hormones and might be worth considering?

I was taken off the combined pill because I was having migraines with auras. The migraines were a risk factor for taking the pill and the pill itself can cause migraines.

I swapped to the POP and haven't had a single migraine with aura since. It's great. (No periods either!) I had some problems with spots on cerelle, but was then put onto micronor and it's much better.

Thanks for the replies. I did try the Mirena & hated it. I had greasy hair, spots & permanent PMT so not sure if I would get on with the POP. I suffer with depression & the combined pill made it worse & gave me headaches. I am seeing my psychiatrist in 2 weeks so I shall discuss it with him too.

I wasn't going to say but, I tried to have the Mirena fitted and the doctor couldn't get it past my cervix (I've never had children, and apparently my cervix was NOT going to open) despite half an hour of prodding. NOT the most pleasant half hour of my life!

I saw my Dr today & he didn't think the POP was a good idea. I'm seeing my psychiatrist soon so I'll discuss it with him but I don't think there are any other meds I can try.
