I have 1 DC, 2.5 years old.

She was back to back for the most part of my pregnancy and had to be rotated by forceps to assist her delivery.

She was a big baby for my small frame, and did put a lot of strain on my back, it ached for a while after she was born but eventually seemed to heal.

Now to my problem. Everytime I sit down, particularly on a hard surface, i feel pain around the coccyx area. It doesn't hurt when i'm standing, walking, lying flat, just when i sit and obviously put pressure on the area.

I believed i had fully recovered from pregnancy and childbirth, but recently (last 2-3 weeks) this pain has been bothering me and i'm not even sure when it started. It's possible that i've been ignoring it for quite some time because it's not excruciating.

Has anyone else experienced this after birth? Is it possible that this is caused by carrying and giving birth to a baby even though it was over 2 years ago? I've had no falls/accidents/injuries that i can recall!

I have an appointment booked with my gp, but as most people do I have googled about this and half convinced myself i could have bone cancer or something equally horrific!

Same problem but not from giving birth (although it may have aggravated it). I fell down the stairs nearly 2 years ago and bashed all the bottom of my back, it was agony to do anything for about 2/3 weeks but then cleared up so never bothered to go to docs about it.

Anyway since then I get flare ups on and off especially after sitting in a hard seat for too long which isn't agony but is a constant ache and then is very painful to stand. I went to my doctor and he examined the area and it's the last part of my sacrum beginning of coccyx and he said there was some swelling and I was referred to pain clinic at hospital.

Consultant I saw kind of prodded it but didn't think an X-ray or Mri would be beneficial at this stage as I know why it is sore. He thinks it's the saccrococogeal ligaments and I am booked in for my first injection into the area on Thursday, he says it won't cure the problem but will give me some relief.

I think because it is just such an awkward place it can take ages to heal properly because it's alway being sat on etc

I developed coxxyx pain after the birtg of my son. I also googled and was convinced it was something sinister! The doctor prescribed an anti inflammatory and it worked wonders. I was sorry I hadn't gone to the doctor sooner. Unfortunately I still do get flare ups if I've been sitting for long periods but it's nowhere near as bad as it was intially. HTH!

You can have injections of steroids on the NHS, if it's that painful ask to be referred to the spinal specialist team. Mine was so bad that I have now had my coccyx removed, but only after everything else had failed.
