Please help - haven't been able to eat properly for weeks - ulcer/phantom gallstones? At the end of my rope

Sorry, this might be a bit long, but will keep it as concise as possible.

Three years ago I started suffering with stitch-like pain and pain under my right rib. GP thinks gallstones. Referred for scan, no gallstones found.

Six months later, same issues again. Referred for scan. No gallstones found.

Followed a low fat diet on GPs advice, and found that this helped. If I ate anything too fatty, especially chocolate and biscuits, I would find the stitch-like pain would come back.

Given nothing was found on scans I have just tried to be healthy, and have "pulled back" if any foods seemed to cause me pain.

Overindulged at Christmas. Had on/off pain around my rib, back and under my right armpit since. Two weeks ago this got progressively worse. Feeling nauseous all the time, unable to stomach food. Foods that never caused me problems before now cause me pain, eg chicken breasts, bread.

Ended up ringing GP. He says potentially ulcer as scans have shown no stones before. Got worse overnight, shaking and feeling poorly, rang doctors again for GP to say choleocystitis and gallstones. Referred for scan. Prescribed anti-biotics.

Here I am now. Have lost nearly one stone in a week as I am unable to eat anything but fruit and vegetables. Feel at the end of my rope as I am still getting pains (albeit less frequently than last week.) Pains mostly in back, and armpit, and round ribs again.

I've got a long wait for my scan - looking like about four weeks. I don't know how I'm going to carry on like this for four weeks. And given that the last two scans have shown no gallstones I'm not holding out any hope (and it is hope as I just want an answer now)

The GP also can't test for H Pylori for ulcers until four weeks after my anti-biotics.

So it's all a waiting game, but I'm not sure I can wait it out. I'm a resilient and strong person, and this has nearly broken me.

I'm not sure what to do. I'm not sure what I want people to respond with. But I've just had enough. Does anyone have any advice?

(BTW it might well not be gallstones as well, as I've never had that rolling around on the floor in agony.)

Ouch. You have my sympathies. I have just had my gallbladder removed having suffered many of the symptoms you describe particularly the rib pain around into your back. Blood tests will identify issues with your gallbladder- I had biliary jaundice. The issues you describe re food sound very familiar. Fwiw, my ultrasound did not pick up more than one gallstone. During the op, they discovered many rolling around and the gallbladder itself was solid with them.
If you run a temp, or throw up, get to A&E.
I really feel for you and hope you get it sorted soon. Thanks
