For years on and off I've had the most agonising pain. I always put it down to trapped wind as it came on after tea, lasted a few hours then went away. Those few hours were me double up on the safe in agony and it hurt to breathe. Attacks are probably couple times a year. The worse time was when I was 32 weeks pregnant and ended up in hospital with suspected appendicitis and they were about to operate when I told them I was hungry so they decided it couldn't be that. They couldn't decide what it was (and never actually looked for anything else) and sent me home. That pain lasted almost a week and at its worse, was absolute agony.
I once asked on here and nearly every reply said gallstones. I thought then that next time it happened I would phone my GP the next day.
Last night went to a relatives where the woman has had hers out and the man is waiting to have his out and we were talking about it. They both said it sounds like gallstones too and I should phone the docs and ask for a scan anyway.
I feel a bit 'funny' asking when I haven't had an attack for a while. I always seemed to get fobbed off when I think something is wrong although I'd say in general my doctors are good. I wouldn't be able to book an appointment, you have to tell the receptionist who will get the doctor to phone you and they decide if they need to see you.
Would you phone or wait and see if it happens again?

Would you phone the doctors about suspected gallstones if you hadn't had an attack for a while? Convinced I've been having them for years.
