Can anyone help me? We are currently using condoms and i am soooo fed up with them, have had depo injection in the past and it doesnt agree with me, and i cant have the pill as i suffer with high blood pressure. I dont like the idea of pumping too many hormones into my body as i find it just affects me too much (depression, weight, dryness, no sex drive etc etc). Any ideas?

After years on the pill, I am now using the coil following dd's birth. It was quick and easy to get fitted and I have had no problems whatsoever with it. I use the normal one, not the mirena which has hormones in it as I too didn't want any more hormones inside me!

Yes, fitted at gps - your surgery will tell you which docs are trained to fit them. It took about 5 minutes - you adopt the dignified 'smear test' position and the coil is inserted and the threads which hang from it are cut to a length that is out of the way, but long enough so that it can be removed in the future. You are also advised to check that you can feel the threads each month after your period to ensure that it hasn't fallen out! If I'm honest, I only check mine every few months . It didn't hurt - all I felt was a short scratch when it went in!

maybe i will be brave and go see the doctor, i would really like to have it, i know so many people that have had it and had no problems ( and the same the other way as well, my aunt got pregnant with twins using it), but just think it would be so much easier then condom problems ie has it split, come off, got carried away and forgot etc etc.

Good luck with it - its really no probs at all! It's a bit uncomfortable getting it put in (but if you've had a baby then you won't be bothered at all!)
