Cough sore throat lurgy lasting weeks, anyone else?

I started with a sore throat, chest cough and cold type thing about three weeks ago. I felt that ill I took a couple of days off work which is most unlike me. I recovered within a few days, but have now been back down with it for a week. Feel worse first thing, coughing in the night, well all night it seems. Just feel really yuk.

I don't think I have an infection anywhere ( when I have had throat/chest infections in the past it's been much more acute than this). It's really getting me down particularly as I am missing the gym, I go every weekday but really don't feel up to it at the moment.

Just wondering if anyone else has has similar and how they treated it. I am on honey and lemon with paracetamol/ibuprofen, should I be doing anything else. I don't think there's any point troubling my GP.

My dh has had this (still does really) and I have a watered down version and feel like utter shit with it too. I think it just has to run its course with you taking it easy, drinking plenty of fluids, resting as much as possible and using painkillers. This type of virus can take weeks to go properly.

DH has had this on and off since late July. Nurse at the clinic suggested it was hayfever but the anthistamenes do nothing.

Yup, just recovering after 2 weeks but been left with a really chesty cough. Thought it was a 48 hour thing and picked up then it hit me 3 days later and was ill for about 5 days, couldnt move, really flu like and sooooo tired.

Worth trying things like sambucol (black elderberry) liquid and echinacea. I usually mix up a witchy potion of various herbs which helps; even just elderflower can help a little. It's grim feeling rough so long, resting is important though, certainly don't rush back to the gym until entirely well, I did that loads and it's thought that it was a major factor in my now being disabled by ME. And fibromyalgia Sad

Adana, that sounds awful , so sorry to hear that. No better today, and my neck is swollen a bit, I have an underactive thyroid and I don't know whether that is impacting my recovery. Fed up, though when you have friends battling breast cancer and the like, it's very trite to be whinging about a bloody sore throat.

Yes, my kids and my dad have had this. The coughing is terrible and literally all through the night; I've never known anything like it before. It lasted about 3-4 weeks altogether I'm afraid.
