My Mum has just taken DS who is 5 to the dentist for routine check-up. He needs 5 fillings!!! 2 big ones at the back need to be done in the very least as he said these will not drop out until he is about 11.

I am crying as I haven't a clue how he is going to cope with this and have needles in his mouth. Either myself or DH will have to take him, I have told DH it will have to be him as I feel sick even thinking about my poor DS.

Anyone else been through this and can give me any words of encouragement?

Thanks
x

My dh took my 4 year old dd to dentist on friday and she needed a filling, was a bit shocked as she always cleans her teeth and doesn't eat loads of sweets. She found the whole experience really enjoyable and has told everyone about it, she especially liked the moving chair and the sticker he gave her. So try not to worry, it will probably be worse for you than your ds.

Thanks kslatts. He was absolutely fine today at the dentist, got a sticker etc. But in reality he doesn't know what is going to happen to him with the fillings, injections etc. I just cannot imaging my DS sitting still to have the injection.

Anyway, Mum has just rang me and has made the 2 appointments for the first 2 big fillings - next AUGUST!!! So glad we still have an NHS dentist, but August....... Oh that is unless they start to hurt and they said they will see him asap!

The problem will be much worse by august. Even if it's going to be difficult financially it's really worth taking him to a private dentist.
