basal cell carcinoma

I have a condition caused by over exposure to the sun in my misspent youth. I have pale skin and did have reddish hair back in the day. When we sunbathed I didn't use much sun screen and often suffered with sunburn in the hopes of turning a golden tan which, of course, never happened. The condition is called porokeratosis and consists of spots on arms and legs which are not too noticeable amongst the freckles. However I had two spots on my lower leg which the dermatologist biopsied and today via e mail confirmed they are basal cell carcinomas and she is referring me to a plastic surgeon. Think because the skin is quite thin on that part of the leg I may need a skin graft.
Does anyone have any experience of this. I am trying not to panic as I know from having done some reading basal cells don't spread anywhere else and I am sure I have had them for a number of years now.
Any advice from anyone who has had experience would be really helpful.

BCCs are not so bad.

BCCs are incredibly common, and easily treated. As you've found though, sometimes theres not the spare skin in an area to close the wound caused by cutting them out and it will need a skin graft. There are other ways to treat them, but usually surgery is the first point of call.

But once they are gone, thats it for that one - unfortunately people who have had one often get more, but it sounds like you are kept a close eye on.
