Can sunburn turn into a tan

I always burn especially if I don't put on sunscreen etc but last month was my daughters sports day I put sunscreen on my exposed areas of skin except I couldn't quite get my back so left it after standing for s few hours my back was burned was sore then the usual started pealing
I've thought nothing of it till today as a few people have said to me see you've been out by the tan on my back
Due to the heat and lovley Sunshine I've been wearing vest tops haven't had a chance to enjoy much what with work etc
But can a burn turn into a tan that's been 3 weeks since I was burned ?? I'm new to tanning seeing as I burn most of the time lol

Yes imo sunburn can turn into a tan. Both indicate sun damaged skin unfortunately.

Thanks just this is a first for me I know my mum goes that way burns then tans lol x
