Would I be wasting the Doctor's time? Period - TMI

I have recently had surgery on my spine. I was in hospital for 4 nights. I was due on when in the hospital but my period never came. It arrived about 3 weeks overdue and I have been on for the last 14 days. I am passing massive clots, flooding even with double protection, feeling faint, dizzy, I have just been to the toilet and have passed a clot the size of my shoe. I am now shaking uncontrollably.

I have always suffered with heavy periods but nothing like this, not even when I was miscarrying. Will I be wasting the Doctors time if I book an appointment?

That sounds horrific Shock

Definitely not a waste of the doctors time...how would you get there? The feeling faint and dizziness are a worry if you're driving.

You might be getting anaemic with the sustained blood loss, the doc could prescribe iron tabs, painkillers and anti inflammitories to reduce the flow. They can give you a hormone to stop the period too and metfamic (?) Acid for future periods.

Don't suffer because it's 'only' a women's health issue (((mumsnetty hugs))(

Thanks. I am crying. It is really taking its toll on me this week. I have just made an appointment for this afternoon. The lovely receptionist even asked me why I had waited so long when I told her what was wrong.

I know it is unmumsnetty but the hugs help.

I'm glad you've got an appointment this afternoon. Please don't play it down when you see the dr. Clots that size are not normal and you will be feeling terrible due to the amount of blood you have lost. My DM ended up being taken to hospital in an ambulance due to massive blood loss during a period. They debated giving her a blood transfusion due to her iron levels and some other things. In the end they gave her medication to stop the bleeding and high strength iron tablets. She still felt dreadful for about 3 weeks.

You will not be wasting the dr's time. Good Luck.

I got an appointment for yesterday afternoon. DH came home early to look after the DCs and drop me off.

I was told to stop taking the 500mg of Naproxen I was taking for anti-inflammatory purposes as this is a known anti-coagulant. The Doctor was going to send me to A&E but I insisted I would get the bloods ASAP. I did not want another night away from the DCs. I have been given Norethisterone for 10 days. I began taking it last night and I have stopped the other medication. I had the blood tests this afternoon and should here if I am anaemic or my thyroid is not right in two days. In the meantime, my DH has been cooking me iron rich foods and making me drink Guinness!

Today I have been bleeding but nowhere near as much. Hopefully this treatment will fix me.

Got a call back from the Doctors today. I'm severely anaemic. They have put me on iron for the next 6 weeks. She said it's a good job I went in when I did because I'm only just out of the transfusion range.

Tengo (love your name by the way) dried apricots are rich in iron. And it's in red wine too.....

Poor thing, sounds awful. Try liquid Floradix as that is one of the best ways to get iron into your system.
