How long can you take the Pill?

I'm 37 and came off the Pill 17 months ago after 15 years without a break to try to conceive. I'm now 23 weeks' pregnant.

For various reasons I will probably go back to the Pill after my baby is born. Does anyone know how long you can continue taking the Pill for? I was on a very low-dose one and my GP doesn't seem to think there would be any problem with me continuing to take it but I'm concerned about still being on the Pill in my 40s and the risk of breast cancer etc. in later life. I'm not a 'high risk' category - I have never smoked, never been overweight and am fit and healthy.

Are there any over-40s out there still on the Pill?

I've been on Microgynon 30 since I was a 18 with small breaks for 2 children and my sister is on the same pill (I'm 40 and she is 44).
We've both been told it's fine also and like you, we are both non-smokers and not overweight.

Thanks McKenzie - I guess times have changed. I remember reading many years ago that the Pill was not recommended for long-term use in women over the age of 35, especially if they were smokers.

Good to know I can take it for a few more years as the alternatives don't exactly float my boat!
