small hot flushes - anything other than menopause???

I'm 42 and for a week or so have been having hot type flushes. Not major, they last a few minutes and I am hot rather than drenched in sweat. I am otherwise well. Could this be the menopause starting or could it be something else? (I don't really want a menopause just yet thank you and am a bit worried).

My MIL started like this when she had a viral infection. Hope you are better soon. x

well could be I suppose but I am younger than you and get hot flushes like that (I've noticed it happens especially when I'm ovulating)

if you are worried, I would go to the GP

Can it be related to anything in specific like after eating a hot meal, exercise etc.?

If not and it's out of the blue it could be the start of the menopause or peri-menopause, which is the ten year period before your periods cease.

I have had hot flushes since my early twenties associated with my periods. I am now 39 and cycle is still the same.

I would seek medical advice if you are worried. Your practice nurse may be able to help.

Agree that it could be the perimenopause. Have had one or 2 similar experiences of this in the last month and am a year older than you!

Do you have any panic attacks at around this time?

what an interesting and helpful bunch of replies. funnily enough mercy I have been stressed and panicky recently, though I would hesitate to call them full blown panic attacks... maybe mini mad moments!

Hmm. From the little I've read so far (and remembering my mum going through the menopause) these episodes of mild panic are quite common.

Great, just what you wanted to hear!

I believe you can have a blood test which can indicate whether you are pre menopausal.
