Last year I had pain on swallowing that seemed to be centred just about where the trachea meets the stomach. It lasted for about 3 days and was really quite painful and then it went away. I had it again a few months later but it was much less painful and only lasted 2 days. Is this anything like what you suffer from?

Trachea is where air goes into the lungs. It's the esophagus that goes to the stomach.

This hurts when I breathe, right in my adam's apple, so to speak. It doesn't hurt a lot. It doesn't seem inflamed, although it is slightly tender.

I did go to a gp, the first time it happened (7 years ago? something like that), saying "my trachea hurts", and came out with the diagnosis of "tracheitis", and the explanation of "It's viral, it will go away on its own".

Try nurofen as is anti inflammatory

im getting it confused I had VERY bad pain when I was PG, but that was esophugus (totally mispelt) pain.

Hmm, worth a go, CD. It doesn't hurt that much, but it is v freaky having pain when I breathe.

No stress, amynnixmum, I get these things confused all the time.

NQC, I had that several times when I was a kid - it was horrid, and a bit scary. I remember feeling as though I had a sort of web over my throat, and the important thing was not to panic and breathe gently and calmly.

Anyway...really sorry you have it. I do remember it coming on when the air was cool and damp at night, in the autumn, as in now. Also remember my mother providing me with steam inhalations to ease it, have you tried that?

Had it once as an adult too, and yes it does hurt - hope you feel better soon.

Oh, I should try steam inhalations.

I think, in my case, it's a cold symptom, more or less. It seems to be associated with them, anyway. It is alarming, in a visceral way, to have discomfort when I breathe.

Weird that, I wonder why ;-).

I should try my asthma reliever, see if that helps - wasn't asthmatic when first diagnosed with tracheitis, but am now, mildly.
