IUD problems

I had an IUD fitted a couple of months ago and was warned that my periods could be heavier and longer, but the last two have been 14 days each. Please someone tell me that this improves after a while, if not then the IUD will certainly prove to be a very effective form of contraception!!!!

ah, I hd long periods with that one, too. Either it will settle down or it won't. Mine didn't settle down and I had it out (thank goodness!!) after a year. GP leaning on me to get Mirena, now.

yes, wish I'd opted for the Mirena now!

Heavier. longer periods are a known side effect of IUDs. The mirena usually results in lighter or nonexistant periods. I have been really pleased with mine. Also it is as effective as a sterilisation.

ive had 3 IUDs,the first 2 were fine but i had to have them removed for other reasons, but last time i had one fitted after having dd2 and my periods were lasting 10 days plus i was spotting in between.the doc said it would settle down but was still the same after 4 periods so i had it removed.
now im pregnant again and wont be getting another IUD!
