HOW TO USE COLIEF??

Hi everyone, I have a 3 week old baby with bad colic. Been giving him Infacol but it hasnt improved enough so I have started him on Colief.

What are your experiences with that? I am breastfeeding and it seems very inconvienent to use it if you arent bottle feeding. Can you not give the Colief directly before a feed without adding it to ebm first?

not afaik u cna't use both, colief with joey - what I did was collect leakage in the cup thingys (had extream l;eakage thou) and put about 1/2 oz on the bottom of the bottle then a coupld of drops in (or required amt can't remeber how much it was now u have to add) gave him that then fed as normal - althou as I say I had a lot of leakage so I could make up a few bottles in advance and not think to worry iycwim.

(was a bit of a pita, I used it from 3 weeks until about 7/8 I think then went back to the infacol.) althou must say worked fab.

ewm, i seem to remember that colief is not supposed to meet baby saliva neat (is that right?) and deffo near impossible to give when bf, i just stuck some in his mouth half way through a feed, reasoning that it would be pretty milky in there and so diluted. yes i used them all in various combos. none of them worked, but it may be different for you! do hope so.

I dont leak that much at all. in fact unless he has skipped a feed for some reason i find it really hard to even express milk. Although I know he is getting enough because he has gained SO much weight!

lol - ah I heard from one of mums friends who again had excellent results - alls I say is don't expect miricals over night - althou to be fair it only took Joey a night maybe 2 to settle down properly. as I understand it if it really helps you out you can ask for it on perscription (or so i've been told since at £10 a go it's expensive tescos sometimes do an offer of £2 off)

as u're not leaking i'd talk to your h/v about it tbh. mine suggested the infacol first but then I told her i'd got the colief and she said ooh it's a bit of a pain, I wonder thou if U could possibly work it the same if u fed a little first so they had the milk in the mouth then put a drop in then fed again?

(I've never tried it not sure if it's ok to do that or not so would strongly suggest talking to your h/v b4 doing that one)

u have my sympathies witht eh feeding as well hon, it's an absoulte nightmare isn't it, alls I can say is it will get better, and I know right now u won't feel like it will do, just sleep when you can, and don't do anything bar eat sleep and feed, your doing a fab job with your feeding etc. as I say no help, really and I never believed ppl who said he'd grow out of it but honestly he has done and around 10 weeks I stopped using everything as he was able to bring wind up himself.

thanks for your advise and support. I really am pulling my hair out here. I am going to look into taking him to a cranial osteopath as well I'm just sad its come to that as I dont have loads of spare cash so it will cost a lot to me.

just thinking what else helpped - althou u're prob doing most of it, I could never feed him then put him straight to sleep I always had to hold him upright for at least 10 mins, and also I didn't pat his back, I rubbed in circles instead, if u do pat I believe using 2 fingers works as well.

(((hugs))) honestly hon it does get easier/better. it also helps if your DH/DP will help out in other areas - my h/v said me to feed and do the nice bit then apass him straight over for winding/changing etc so I could get some much needed sleep whilst that was going on.

ooh and another one just remebered, we put towels under one end of his crib to prop it up a bit more and two towels either side of him to keep him in place, not sure if the towels worked/did anything as we're still doing it now but rasing the crib defiantly did help, (could see a real difference when I stopped thinking he was ready to stop and wasn't.)
