Is it possible to be so stressed it causes vomiting? Or is this something else?

Split up (kicked out) abusive ex-p nearly 2 months ago and it has been hard work. I've had my ups and downs, nothing too major, but twice now I have had my stomach cramp up really badly, it just get worse and worse until I can't fight it any more and have to be sick. I have loads of wind too and it seems to happen at night. I am otherwise well, no viruses etc. So I am assuming it is stress. What can I do about this and has it happened to anyone else?

Previously when I've been stressed I have got the runs before but never vomiting.

Yep. Have suffered myself. Been to doctors had all sorts of tests. It's really flared up when I've had very stressful times. You have my sympathies

Yes it's possible. A uni friend I used to live with vomited when she was really stressed about things, she went through a 6month period of being sick nearly every day purely because of stress. Once her situation changed it all stopped.

Do you mean you only get those symptoms at night? Personally, I would go to the GP to check - vomiting isn't exactly good for you. Do you have diarrhoea, too, or just vomiting?

Yes, it's possible for stress to either cause vomiting or make you produce more adrenaline > more stomach acids > irritation of the stomach lining > vomiting.
Go and see your GP for a RL chat and an examination, woman. Random internet strangers are not going to be able to tell you what's wrong.

Well done for getting shot of your Ex Thanks. Onwards and upwards for you.

Yeah I have also had diarrhoea as well as vomiting. But I have IBS anyway so that's nothing new. The vomiting however, is new and has only started since becoming single.

I was planning on going to gp as well, if I can ever get an appointment!

Possible yes. I have had this when DP and I went thru a rocky patch - retching and even vomiting through stress / anxiety. But I would visit doc to rule out other problems

Agree with pacific

But yes, I'm on tablets for anxiety and before that I was always throwing up. Had to see consultants but they found nothing, in fact I got accused of making myself sick because all the tests found nothing.

Only when I started the tablets for anxiety and stress did it stop :)

And also from what I've read stress can trigger IBS!

But obviously that's anecdotal, worth getting checked out. Hope you can get an appointment soon

Could be anxiety, could be giardiasis, could be something else altogether... you have to rule out physical causes before you can blame anxiety.

Probably. I sleep with a sick bowl in my room because I often feel like I'm about to throw up.

Also have IBS, but everything has been tested including an endoscopy, so it's just stress related.

I would look at doing yoga for both physical and mental relief from stress to help settle your mind and body.

Ibs is stress related, so yes. My ibs presents as wind and cramps and if it's very bad I can be sick from that.
