Yukky coil/periods question

This is a gross thread so if queamish, you might not want to read ...

Okay so here's the deal. Had a Mirena fitted in March, I had a little spotting that week, then a lighter period the next month, and have had no periods since.

Generally I've been really pleased with it, but this month I started my period (last Sunday) and it hasn't been heavy but the blood is fresh (bright red). I'm still bleeding now (9 days on) and having cramps and today have had some lumpy, sticky, thick pieces of discharge which don't look like normal blood clots which is worrying me.

Has anyone else had this? Sane & Sensible Bibi is thinking this is just a period and nothing to worry about as I'm not in much pain (except normal period cramps) and I'm not bleeding heavily.
Paranoid Bibi is thinking this is either a perforated uterus or an early miscarriage.

Can someone out there put my mind at rest please before I make an @rse of myself at the Drs.

Thanks

How about NHS direct for advice?

I've thought about NHS direct, but they take an age to ring you back, ask a thousand questions then tell you to see your GP anyway.

Maybe I'll give them a ring though, just so I can rule out anything gross.

It doesn't seem like an infection, (not smelly or anything), just unusual.

Thanks

I don't want to be an alarmist, but it could be an ectopic pregnancy. Coils don't prevent ectopics, I don't think. If the bleeding gets any heavier, I should go to the docs or A&E asap.

Be on the safe side and go to the doctors - they are paid to listen to our problems and you wouldn't be wasting there time, thats what they are there for.

Rang NHS direct and after 13 minutes of questions they told me to see my gp. They were very kind and helpful in all other respects though and I am assuming if they thoguht it was urgent they'd have advised I go to hospital.

I'll ring the surgery first thing. Thanks everyone.

I saw the Dr who advised I go for a scan, in case my coil has come out or dislodged, but can't go until after my holiday. Well I found the coil threads today so I'm guessing it's not lost or come out. He also said if I got any symptoms to do a home pregnancy test - so that's got me worried now too, what if I am and it's ectopic or what if I was and the tissue I lost was a m/c?
I've asked the surgery to get the Dr to ring me back this morning so I can see how he thinks I should treat this now I know the loss wasn't the coil being expelled.

Any other advise or anyone can shed any light on this i'd be grateful! Thanks.
