Our daughter has always suffered with constipation, about two years ago it became severe with teachers complaining she smells and soiled underwear, my wife had battled for years with the doctors to do something but they just said she would grow out of it, finally a school nurse recognised the problem and we managed to get a hospital appointment, we went along and the consultant was horrified to see our daughters distended stomach, it was packed solid, as a consequence loose faeceas were leaking down the sides of her bowels, the consultant wanted to admit her imediately, understandably our daughter was very upset, and we managed to get her a 2 week reprieve on the condition she put a huge effort into taking her medicine (shes very stubborn) anyway a year later and things were looking good, but in the last few weeks she has started soiling again more than ever, its frustrating because she does not have constipation this time, and although i hate to say it its general laziness on her part, she also will not clean herself properly, she moves up to big school this term and doesnt seem bothered, we have tried various approaches, i tried to explain that people in the new school will tease her, i've tried a stern approach and a more understanding approach she just does not seem bothered, we do not know what to do now and neither do the doctors, our daughter does have other problems, for an 11 year old she has seen a lot of deaths and hospital life, i myself have been through large amounts of trauma and shee saw me lose my leg, she also has an unhealthy religous outlook on life, she worries about hell and being sent there, neither of us are religious and none of her extended family are, has anyone else come accross or had a similar situation happen to there child? we just do not know where to turn anymore.....

I can't help at all but didn't want to leave your post unanswered.

Has she had psychological/psychiatric help as well as assessment? It could be that she needs to find the right person to counsel her. Has she taken any kind of anti depressant medication? Is she depressed?

Is she trying to avoid life/control life where she hasn't been able to cope with things outside her control?

I'm sorry you and she are having such a struggle.

What builds her self esteem and what does she enjoy? Thinking about this may help you find a way in to crack this problem

did you see you had some replies?

Is it a good time to try and help her before the school term starts?
