Mouth ulcer, abscess or nothing to worry about ?

About a month ago I had a regular dental check up and hygienist appointment at which I mentioned my front bottom tooth seemed sensitive. Dentist thought I'd probably knocked it or caught it on food and it was fine.

Anyway the sensitivity still comes and goes and today I noticed the gum below has a small whitish patch below its base. It doesn't hurt and is n't sore in itself and may well have been the same as at my check up. Have applied an antiseptic gel. However we go on holiday tomorrow morning so am now panicking in case something flares up while we're away.

Any ideas please ?

go and get it checked out before your hols if you can, i had this at the weekend and it grew into a horrible infection and i need root treatment next week. the dentist gave me some antibiotics which are now helping, at least you'll have something if it does get worse

oh bum Hope it doesn't come to that . No chance of seeing anyone beforehand. Fortunately I have emergency dental cover but have to hope it is ok - will pack strong mouthwash and gel I think.

Update - southeastastra, you were right . Saw dentist today (first available between our holiday and hers)It has developed and apparently indicates the tooth has died. So the tooth has been drained and disinfected and I go back to have the root filled in about a month Ironically although the lump has got a bit bigger and pusy still no real pain.

The lump has come and gone on and off since Friday but this evening it burst (yuk , mainly fresh blood sorry if tmi). Stopped quickly but now paranoid about blood poisoning after googling . Guess I'll have to phone the surgery again tomorrow.

Surgery say it should be fine as it is now draining - bleurgh ! If it swells or is painful I have to go back possibly for ab's.
