Should i take dd1 to the doctors?

She had a cold almost 3 weeks ago, she was realy ill for a week and then seemed to get better but now and again she has these realy bad coughing fits which resault in her being sick and struggling for breath. Should i just let it run its course or should i take her to the doctors?

IMO - it never does any harm to get your kids checked out with the doctor/nurse if there's something you are not happy about.

Coughs do seem to linger but like sparkler1 says, there is no harm in getting her checked out.

I would take her to the doctor asap. My GP told me that a cough that lasts more than 2 weeks after a cold warrants a visit.

Does she sound wheezy or chesty? I'd be concerned re struggling for breath tbh.

She seems fine during the day, it just seems to be at night/late afternoon and early in the morning. The cough seems very loose but once she starts coughing she does'nt stop until she's sick.

There could be a number of reasons why she still has the cough.
WHen DS was 2, he was ill for a few weeks, we visited the Dr 3 times in the space of 1 week. In the end they referred us to the hospital and DS was diagnosed with pnemonia, he had a slight cough and a temperature on and off, the x-ray revealed one lung was full of fluid. He made a quick recovery with antibiotics.

Seriously go get her checked for your own reassurance. Lots of children suffer for different reasons. Lots of wonderful advice, tips can be posted on MN sometimes but can sometimes make you think that things are worse than they probably really are. Let us know how you get on. xx

Thanks, i will try and get her to the doctors tomorow.
I does'nt take much to make her sick so i'm sure its nothing much, maybe she needs some antibiotics to clear it up.

definitly to the doctor!! a cough that lasts for more than a week definitely needs to be seen by a doctor. esp. if it accompanies with fever (even on/off mild fever), my son last year had a cough for more than a week, his doctor ordered an xray of the chest and it showed mild chest infection, an antibiotic was needed(although he didn't have fever at the time)
