Baby Massage Sessions - advice please!

Hi

On Monday I am booked to take DS (6wks) to an hour long baby massage session at our local sure start centre. I have really been looking forward to it but am a little anxious as to how the group will be run - i mean, he is 6 wks and unlikely to lie down for an hour happily while i massage him! Does anyone have any experience of these sessions and is 6wks too young or will it just be a really informal thing whereby i can feed, hold etc as needed?

TIA X

the one we went to was rally informal and sometimes ds1 slept all the way through
i started with him at 6 weeks and the first few times i massaged him for a few minutes.
but it was really nice aqnd bit by bit we managed to do the full massage most times - about 40mins then a cuppa and a natter

some of the babies kicked off, but as everyone is in the same boat it didn't matter.

lovely time, i look back with a smile, so good luck Smile

thanks oops - its only a 3wk course but i thought it would be nice to be able to continue with it at home after. Just a bit concerned that i wont get to actually touch ds for the whole sessions as he's a bit windy atm and therefore a bit grumpy!

i hope it goes well, it may help with the wind too, there were some leg movements and tummy rubbing that we did that helped with wind

ours was a drop in, so we went for a long time- until ds1 was crawling.
i took ds2 twice, when ds1 was at playgroup, but i am afraid in the end i preferred going to starbucks with ds2 instead! Shock

I found baby yoga and massage excellent for helping with wind and tiring out DS. Any new experience seems to exhaust them. Would recommend yoga.

I loved the baby massage! The only thing was that I had to wear a number of breastpads in my bra because my breasts leaked something frightening. The therapist said it was not unusual as the contact with the baby can set off the let-down, but I was soaked. Also, baby then smelt the milk and started getting all wriggly for food! - but would highly recommend it anyway - was great! Enjoy.

I took Joey at 4 weeks - which tbh was too young - we then went back when he was 6 weeks and he was v happy to be massaged. I prefered to feed at home, but on our first visit had to feed him there - I was surprised how laid back it was about 10 of us and every one was just wapping their boobs out! lol.

as for the holding thing, out SS lady just simply said if they get too fidgety or you feel like they want a cuddle - give them a cuddle, we were encouraged to talk to the babya as well.

I had a fab time, went for a second course but swimming is the same day and i'd rather get him into swimming.

weel... took ds on Monday and it was good. There were only 4 of us and there was another 6 wk old there too. Very informal and relaxed. DS slept for much of it but they had handouts and said that even if ds slept through every session, at least i would be able to obtain the information and massage him at home. I did manage to massage his left leg for 2 mins before he fell asleep again!!
