Quick question re first jabs - do they sometimes contain Mercury?

TIA to anyone who can answer. I think I probably asked a similar thing a while back but I can't find it. Dd has first jabs at 2pm today, should I be asking whether they are Thimerosil (is this the worrying ingredient?) free? Is this the same as Mercury? Am I right in thinking some countries have already banned this from 1st jabs? Sorry, maybe not so quick. Sorry also if I'm duplicating but I haven't got ages as will have to leave at 1.45pm. Thanks.

they will contain thimerosil unless you specifically ask for infanrix. they may kick up a fuss about infanrix though becuase its aP not wP and the hib mess recently means they don;t want babies having infanrix.

Can write more later (or why not contact me off list and I can ring you if you want or you can ring me) .

But quick answer- yep they will contain thimerosil

Other answer aus don't give thimerosil in standard jabs given under the age of 5.

The states stopped giving thimerosil containing dtps 4 years ago (although they give hep B at birth which contains thimerosil).

does this help? It says thimerosil is mercury and that you need to ask for mercury-free Diptheria-tetanus-whooping cough and separate hib.

I didn't know all this - no wonder dd was a bit off colour after her first vaccines. The nurse at the time told me to give her some paracetemol straight away - I'd take a sachet of calpol with you (or even give it to her just before you go). Hope it all goes well.

www- I'd be prepared to stand your ground. Thimeorisl free dtp etc is infanrix, and the d of h has issued something recently saying that infants shouldn't be getting infanrix, only pre-schoolers should.

The US and Aus use it without any problems though.

The reason they are making a fuss is becuase the hib hasn't worked as well as it should have and they think that may be to do with giving aP not wP (don;t aks me why). They're not sure though that was just one listed possibility.

The doctor gave a very big sigh and gave me Infanrix. Thanks (I had forgotten how utterly horrible it is though, holding your baby to be jabbed)

glad he\she didn't give you a hard time.

And you've reminded me I have to send my dr a letter saying that I don't want pre-schoolers for ds1. (Keeps the HA off his back apparently). He aksed for one- with reasons- for ds2's baby jabs and got 3 pages He said a couple of lines will do this time
