Noise insensitivity. What could it be?

I thought perhaps a sort of migraine, without the headache, as I get visual aura migraines without the pain.

Saw the GP and he prescribed some migraine tabs, but they haven't done anything, so he suspects it's 'some sort of virus'.

It's lasted 2 full days now and makes anything above the noise of a whisper extremely uncomfortable as the noise rattles around my skull and makes me feel sick/disorientated.

Driving/being outside/watching TV/listening to music/talking above a whisper with my kids is all out.

And I can't even contemplate work, with a class full of kids, when I can't even speak at a normal volume without giving myself a headache.

(Feeling sorry for myself)

Sounds horrible (& rather what it must be like to be autistic in a lot of cases - no wonder people with the condition can struggle). Google hyperacusis if you haven't already as that's it's proper name.

lol - I googled 'noise sensitivity' and 'virus' earlier and came up with the diagnosis of ME. Good old Dr Google. :)

It is horrible. It distracts me. And makes me physically wince.
Not a good mix when driving. At least I know I feel like this because I'm under the weather - what it must be like to constantly be like this I can't imagine.

Earplugs, courtesy of DH, have helped filter out a lot of the noise so that I didn't have to hide away from everyone this afternoon.

Just hope it goes soon.

If it hangs around google AIT, it can help.

I'm getting random links when googling AIT - Asylum and Immigration tribunal being the top one, then some engineering firm.

:)

It's a little better today - I'm able to speak at a normal volume and can tolerate the TV on and stay in the same room. It is still resonating in my skull a bit, but it's just irritating, not exasperating!

All better by today. :)

And I have heard of others who've come down with the same symptoms so it does seem that it is just a bug/virus going around.

Excellent. I think it's not that uncommon with a virus - bit like tinnitus - just a problem if it hangs around.
