General health

Urgent - dd1 v.sick and we have a 1 week old baby.

Dd1 has a temperature of 39.5. We have a week old baby and I am terrified for him. Is he likely to catch her virus? If so what do I do? I'm used to managing illness in children but not such a tiny one.

It doesn't help that the day after ds was born dd2 was rushed to hospital after she collapsed and there has been no explanation found for why she did this. It has been really traumatic and we are beside ourselves. Any help or advice or experience will be so welcome.

no, he's not likely to catch it all. b/c he's still got your antibodies flowing through him.

try to relax! i know it's so hard.

dd1 caught a horrendous cold that went into a chest infection when dd2 was just a fortnight old.

Sorry that you're going through this.

Are you breastfeeding?
If so I think your baby will probably be okay due to receiving antibodies from you.

Can't help but thinking of you //[[[hugs]]]

Hope all of the children are better soon.

Try not to stress, you must be exhausted.

If baby is being bf won't they have a little of you immunity?

I'm sure people on here will know, but keep going!

xx

Nearlythree - have you rang NHS direct? They might be able to suggest something.
If you haven't already give dd1 calpol and sponge down to lower the temp and most of all calm down.

If dd1 collapsed earlier this week it may be something which the baby can't catch iyswim.

Hugs to you at this worrying time.

Poor you it is so worrying for you !I speak from experience ,when dd2 was 5 day's old dd1 ,dp and myself caught that really bad d & v bug and i was terrified and very upset that dd2 would catch it.The midwife said that if i was bf that should provide some immunity to infections but because i wasn't ,just to be extra vigilant with hygiene and keep dd1 away (to avoid her spreading it).Luckily dd2 was fineGrinIm sure your dd wont catch it but phone nhs direct incase you are still concerned!Hope all goe's ok for you ,i will keep my finger's crossed!

Don't know really but if you keep washing your hands "between patients", I would say that he will be OK

Thanks for all your replies, it's really kind. I stopped bf yesterday as I'd got so sore and I need to be well and able to look after all three children. Dd1 has been all over ds, she's been so excited about him coming, that he must have been exposed to whatever she has got already, probably before we even knew she was ill. The gp said ds would be immune, but it's good to hear that some of you have actually experienced that. Thank you all so much.

have you got some baby nurofen for dd1? I find it lowers the temp for a bit longer than calpol does (and a dose lasts for 8 hours so a bit better for night time)

sounds like an awful start for you with dd2 in hosp just after ds was born

have you got someone to help you in the next few weeks?

So sorry to hear of all your problems :(

Have you tried Kamillosan? I used that when I was BFing and it very quickly cleared up the sore nipples.

I AM glad to hear DS arrived OK - was beginning to get a little worried when I hadn't heard! :o
