Hi,

DS who is 21 weeks had temperature of over 38. Have called NHS waiting for phone call. He is showing all the signs of teething, red cheeks, very warm, irritable, fist/finger constantly in mouth, wakes himself up crying in pain/frustration. Have been giving him Nelsons Powders and have just given him 2.5ml of paracetemol suspension.

Does this sound like teething? And is a temperature normal? Just confirming (putting mind at rest) while i wait for this call.

Thanks x

The paediatrician said to me that the only thing a baby should get when teething is teeth..........
however many parents will tell you that their lo always got a temperature/ diarrhoea/nappy rash.
(We were lucky, ds just got teeth)
If you are concerned about the temperature you have done the right thing. Trust yourself.

Yes it can be.

you can also give nurofen for children 2 hrs after giving calpol. This should help keep the temperature down.

Also, strip baby down and sponge him with a cloth using tepid water. Not hot, tepid!

Could be teething but a really high temperature could suggest a possible viral infection. Either way you are doing all the right things. If temp won't go down you could give him a cool bath, poor little boy. You must be feeling pretty awful too!

I hope they call soon and that all is well.

Don't forget to post and let us know. I might not check back until the morning, but it would be good to know that your wee one is okay. Smile
