shaking head

my 8 mth old DS has been shaking his head from side to side off and on the last few days. He used to do it a few mths ago - I thought it was to do with teething as he will shake his head when mouthing something to rub his gums. Now he does it when ther is nothing in his mouth, He does not appear to be in discomfort at all and is not rubbing at his ear or head - which I thought he would be if there was anything wrong there. He seems perfectly happy when he is doing it. I am planning to phone the doctors but has anyone got any ideas?

they start the weirdest habbit dont they...?
My first reaction would be to say teeth. The next would be to say that he has just found he can do it and likes it.Smile

ds3 did this for a while around that age. he then stopped and never did it again so I'm sure it's nothing to worry about. no harm in being reassured by gp though.

there are 4 babies in my mom and baby group that do it. we were all relieved when we learned ours wasn't the only one. (so yeah i think it;s normal!)

my ds does this, like chapsmum said i think it can vaguely be linked to when he is teething, he does it most in the high chair when his head touches the back of the chair ,i think he does it because he has suddenly realised he has a 'back of the head!'.... mum reacons me and my brother did it and thinks babies do it just because they can?!

thanks to everyone so much - this is really reassuring. In my darker moments I thought he may have some neurological problem!!

My ds is 8 months and does it while smiling, it's just another trick he's learnes. Don't you think he's just plating? Or should I be worried?!

Sorry. PLAYING and LEARNED is what I meant. I'm worried NOW!
