My dd woke up this morning with a bright red rash about 6 inches diameter on her left cheek bone. She did sleep on that side last night but this has not happended before. Its bright red and very hot. She does get red cheeks when teething but this looks different. I was only at my docs yesterday about her neverending cold and felt like I was wasting their time so i dont want to go back again unnecessarily. She is happy in herself and does not seem bothered by this. it was a hard night, she was up about 5 times screaming - took forever to get her back to sleep. I tried calpol as she is teething with a bad cold and cough but she was in such a state i could not get her to take it... shattered!!! I dont think the rash is related to her teeth as its up to high on the left side of her cheekbone to her ear. Anyone experienced this?

Yes - my dd gets this, but only related to teething. Have you tried some bonjela?

If her waking was unusual and she isn't responding to calpol or bonjela, I'd go back to the doctors. If you are worried then it isn't wasting their time. In my view, sometimes you have to go back more than once to actually get some action!

Good luck.

Sounds like an ear infection. Ds had one a couple of months ago and his cheek and ear were very red and angry looking. A course of nice banana flavoured antibiotic cleared it up nicely.

Don't worry too much. Just make an appointment at the Docs and they should spot it right away. In the meantime try Calpol again, then 2hrs later Baby Nuerofen, 2hrs later Calpol etc etc etc. The Neurofen has a syringe which is great for squirting into their mouths.

Go to google and do a search on Slapped Cheek or Fifth Disease, then click on images, have a look and see what you think. Sounds like a possiblity.

both mine have had blotchy face rashes and a temp that comes a goes over the last week- ds1's started on one side. It's just some weird virus thing. Seems to have gone now. If she's well in herself I wouldn't worry.

The other thing that can give ds1 rashes is things like a change in soap powder.

If she has an ear infection or slapped cheek she would probably run a high temp and it would be worth getting her checked out again.
