General health

14 month old being sick. Shall I give him anything? Water? BM?

I'm nver sure about this. I want him to have fluids, but if he's just going to be sick again maybe he's better off with nothing for a bit.

He has been sick about 8 times today (just yellow bile now). Bizarrely he seems fine in all other respects. He had what appeared to be a very mild bout of chicken pox last week. All spots have scabbed over and almost gone already, but could the two be related?

Oooh, nasty :( Don't know if they're related but I suspect not.

I'd just offer water in very small quantities and see if it stays down. If he can't keep water down, I think I'd be a little worried.

Will try bm but was worried it might agitate the vomit action again. Sometimes medical advice is no food or drink for 12 hours isn't it?

Only a little worried whereas I don't worry at all about a vomitting child normally.

Yes (or even 24). I think water is considered OK. Children generally bounce back rasonab;y quickly from vomitting bugs.

hey spidy,
DO NOT STOP FLUIDS!!!
it is important that you keep him hydtated especially in light of his DM. 5-15 mls water every 10 mins.
Avoid dioralyte unless your gp has prescribed it.
Keep a very close eye on his bm.
rub sugar on his gums if it is on the low side but do not stop giving him fluids.

How is his BM??

Breastmilk is fine if he wants it. Best thing for him. Hope he improves quickly :(

Thanks. Looks like I'll have a few night time duties.

Chapsmum, mercifully it's another ds who has DM. I guess if he catches this bug the fun really starts.
