my 7mth DS has just fallen over backwards from sitting & bashed head on wooden floor (he was on playmat on a rug but had moved). Cried loads but seems ok now - should I rush to A & E?

If he cried, seems OK now and he is moving I think you won't get any more advice form A&E than what you can get on the NHS direct website. I will try to find it for you...

thanks so much Chandra & Twiglett - I feel so guilty. was sitting behind him on the mat for a while and then moved to start singing to him. Just thought - I'd better move him because if he falls backwards he'll hit his head on the floor. Then bent back to get a toy, my hand just by his bum when he went back. He seems fine now so will just keep a close eye on him. Am a 1st time mum so these things are so scary.....

Just got back from A and E because darling DS rolled off the bed!!!! - we taught him to get off the bed bum first which he does, however tonight he was closer to the edge than he realised and just rolled off - am feeling like the worst mother in the world, but DS is fine. The Dr told me that the things you should watch for include vomiting, bleeding from the ear and a loss of consciousness. If you don't see any of these, then take a deep breath, kiss the bump better and then keep an eye out for the next 12 hours. As long as baby is moving and reacting to you, things are fine - check out the web page that Chandra sent -

Don't be hard on yourself Nellie, I think that baby hurting his head is just one of those milestones of childhood. We felt terrible the first time it happened and rushed to A&E, by the time they saw him the bump was almost gone, DS was all chatty and happy so they only gave us the info in a card and sent us home saying that we were over worrying first time parents.

Almost a year later DS fell down the stairs, ambulance picked him up because he was not moving his legs, rushed to A&E just to wait there for almost 45 minutes, and the story repeated itself.
