one of two things spring to mind,

  1. she is just generally run down, lack of vitamins such as vitamin c make it more difficult for the body to abbsorb essential nutrients (iron etc.

The other less likely option would be crohnes disease. this is a disease which causes infammation like ulcers on any part of the digestive trace. This usually presents with tummy pain, weight loss, anaemia, altered bowel habits and bleeding from the back passage. \link{http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases/pubs/crohns/\useful link}.

Try not to worry Like i said the first is the most probable option given the symptoms you have described, your gp may want to do a few more blood test and see how her symptoms resovlve with some vitamins etc. but have your questions ready befor you go in so he can put your mind at rest.

    Good luck, hope this helps.

Hand foot and mouth virus perhaps caught while her defences are low while recovering from another illness ?

thanks, i have just read about coeliac disease, as this sort of make sense about the symptoms. One article said about enamel defects on the teeth. I did notice ds front teeth, there were like specks of white in the teeth, looks a bit strange. When we first went to GP it was because dd felt tired all the time and had no energy/ tummy aches come and go,along with aching joints and very cold hands. . She is very pale in colour and has been like this for months now.

Nurse at doctors wants dd to see doctor first thing tomorrow. lars

lars, coeliac diseas is very different from crohnes, crohnes would directly cause mouth ulcers. with coeliac disease you would really expect to see altered bowel habits especially after a very glutenous meal.

Chapsmum, thanks for your support/advice.

DD is at home today and said she does find it hard to go to the loo sometimes ( motions that is). It's just coeliac disease seem to fit some of the symptoms, also the enamel defect was something I notice on dd teeth only last week.

Update, no urine test done. Referring her to consultant for further investigation. GP said not really sure what it is, maybe because she is low in iron could be causing it. larsxx

Thanks for letting us know, lars. At least its being taken seriously. I really hope it is just because of her low iron and nothing else. Will keep my fingers crossed for you!

Sorry ment to say, floradix is a natural iron supplament which doesnt constipate, have a word with your gp about using it and at what dose, should you have any of the nasty side effects of iron tablets.

DS had something like this before Christmas, had a mouth ulcer, then ongoing stomach pains for a couple of months. (Not always bad though) He had blood tests, xrays etc and so far the only diagnosis has been 'recurrent abdominal pain of childhood' doesnt sound like a real condition but in the absence of any other signs this seems likely. We have also cut out whole milk from his diet as sometimes he got stomach pains straight after drinking milk. It has improved. Try keeping a diary of symptoms to show the specialist
