dd woke up this am feeling VERY hot and very lethargic. This has come out of nowhere so very dramatically i carried her into the doctors saying - "someone must see her now".

Doctor saw her and she has a chest infection on right side and a fever. She has the "blurts" sorry can't spell the D word and so is now taking banana amoxillin, calpol and a linctus for her cough.

He says I should sponge her in tepid water every half hour to control the temperature and give her plenty of fluids. I hae been doing this throughout the day. She is not eating - had a bowl of porridge at 10.30 but nothing since.

Is there anything else I should be doing?

dont worry too much about food, how old is dd? she can have nuerofen in between calpol doses to bring down the temp. I feel that tepid spnging is a bit outdated. strip to the napy/ vest and have a fan blowing cool air on her.
Perhaps some dioralyte?

she is 3.3 yo. I have blackcurrant dioralyte but its still abt salty for her and she won't take it but she is still takeing water so thats ok isn't it?

Don't want her to get too cold. instead of fan would turning the radiator off in her bedroom help (its thick of snow outside so not very warm) and just putting her to bed in pull up nappy and vest?

the antibs might upset her tummy

try and give them to her after she's eaten something - even if it is small (like a piece of banana or toast)

I prob wouldn't turn the radiator off - you don't want her to freeze because it will end up raising her temp. Just leave it on and plonk her in nappy and vest as you thought.

helsi, your instinct will guide you, that sound fine. Try half strength dioralyte or put 1tbs of fresh orange and a tiny pinch of salt in a large cup of water. though as long as shes drinking am sure things are ok just now. Coola and sooth sheet can be good, or a cool flannel if you cut one in half and put it on her wrist where you would take her pulse this can also help. Put her beu/cot up on books, vick on her chst and steam if her breathing is really bothering her.

hope she feels beter soon!
