annoyed with hospital

last week my girls had an appointment with paediatrics about allergy testing. however they have discoverd a possible problem with dd2 heart. for some reason they advised us to go back to our gp. so yesterday we went to the gp's, he was confused as to why we had to see him, and why the hopsital didnt follow it up there and then. he checked her heart out, said there is something up, and now has to refer us again to the same doc at the same hospital. so now we are playing the waiting game again. i tried getting a cencelation appointment by being cheeky and foning up, but they said they cant do anything without a referral letter even tho they are the ones who found the problem.

Oh misdee that sounds SO annoying. Did they send you back to GP for another referral as the heart thing wasn't scheduled?

Hi Misdee

How frustrating for you, not to say worrying. Hope that things work out ok and please keep us posted as to what happens with your DD. ((hugs))

Take Care

Aww Misdee you must be absolutely spitting mad!

My sisters DD had to wear a heart monitor for 24 hours last year and they said that if she didn't hear anything then nothing was wrong. They heard nothing until last week when an appointment appeared for the specialist out of the blue - this is 14 MONTHS LATER!!! So my sis has been thinking everything is ok and carrying on as normal with her DD. Apparently they told the GP but my niece 'slipped through the net' and has just come up for an appointment now. TCH!!!!

As if with these things it isn't worrying enough without all this extra stress. Sympathy and hugs coming your way.

she was rederred to the hsopital originally for food intolernces. but the doc picked up the problerm with her heart. and then sent us back to the gp, who said that the hospital should sort it out, i know she wasnt meant to be seen at the hospital for her heart, but surely instead of taking us off the list and then the doc putting us back on the waiting list is just more paperwork, time and stress. my dh has to wait months between his appointments with his cardiologist, but that is at a different hospital, so no idea how long dd2 will be waiting between appointments. actually its the same health authority, so maybe dd2 will be under dh doc, i hope so as she is brilliant.

Ring the hospital again and ask to be put through to the PALs service (Patient Advice and Liaison service) - you may find that they will be more helpful

What a nightmare! Would you consider going privately, the same dc proberbly sees private patients? When I had to wait for my sons referral for his asthma, I rang the asthma nurse and she told me to ring his secretary, so I did and asked if it was possible to see my ds sooner and that i was willing to pay - she said the waiting list privately was nearly as long! A few hours later she rang back and said that the asthma nurse had spoken to her and that they could fit us in sooner on the NHS afterall!! Never had the same problem after that.

misdee, I'd also recommend trying PALS. The other thing to try is to call the paediatrician's secretary directly and explain the mess. Some are dragons, others can be very helpful. Good luck!
