Could processed food be making her constipated??

I'm realy quite anal (bad choice of words!!) about DD's food and whilst she knows what chicken nuggets and sweets are she doesn't get them more than once a month. however, her nursery's on half-term and muy mum's looking after her. My mum doesn't believe in cooking, nutrition etc and DD has had more c**p than i care to think about.

She now seems to be constipated and is absolutely terrified of going to the loo, keeps saying her bottom hurts etc.. The same thing happened when she went to mum's regularly before. DH thinks it could be due to her diet when she's there (although she does have a decent brakfast and supper at home), I'm wondering if he's right? Does processed food (they went to mcDonald's yesterday, and she had a sausage roll and sweets, lots of dairy stuff) make you constipated if you're not used to it?

More processed food does make kids constipated - dh says he sees it all the time in surgeries. If she is really suffering then a tiny dose of senna syrup is what he usually recommends. It says only over 6 on the bottle but if you give half that dose then it should be fine for anyone over 1. I know this cos we had MIL here this weekend as I was recovering from an operation and she did all the cooking and did exactly the same - loads of nuggets and even bought white bread which I never do - and ds has been all bunged up. poor wee thing - hope your dd feels better soon.

Cheers, after a few doses of syrup of figs and a lot of coaxing DD finally did the deed! The poor thing was in agony and for the past 24 hours was actually 2holding it in" herself. Freaked us out a bit, as after not going for 4 days.....

I'm going to try and tackle mum sbout the processed food, suspect this might be difficult.

Hope your DS is ok now Susan and that you're recovering well from your op.
