Poo, my baby and me....

....or should I worry about this.

Ds is almost 7 months. From the outset he's never been one for pooing very often. He was exclusively bf until 6 months and used to poo infrequently, at one point once every week/10 days. I understood that this was normal for bf babies so didn't worry.

Now he's on a mix of bf, formula and solids and he has real trouble with his poo, bless him, producing quite stools with a fair amount of trouble - lots of grunting, huffing and squeaking. He's not constipated as he goes most days. He doesn't have baby rice - just fruit, veg and some lentils and fish.
Someone said that it was like he didn't know how to push and I should take him to the doctor (what the hell they'd do I don't know...lessons in pushing???)

My instinct is that he's still quite new to solids and I should let his system get used to the changes and not worry.
But I don't want to miss something.
Am I right, will it all settle down?

welshmum, I remember my (bf) dd's poos at that age could range from 3X a day to once very few days and the frequency came and went in phases.

As for the grunting, can't say dd has that problem or that I ever heard of the don't-know-how-to-push thing. Thought it is pretty instinctive and like you say, what can the doctor do??

Does your ds seems in any distress? Perhaps give him a little water occasionally now that he is taking solids.

i would recommend water and maybe a tiny bit of diluted orange juice.

my ds has always had a good grunt when producing poo, even when quite sloppy.

If he was breastfed until you weaned him,the chances are the more solid, frequent poo has startled him into making a noise. Unless he seems in pain, I'd just leave it. it sounds like nothing is wrong.

I'll keep trying to get him to drink something other than milk....thanks for your counsel...this person had started me thinking there was something seriously wrong with his bowels. He doesn't half make some interesting noises though - I thought he was having some sort of attack this morning with all the squeaking, wheezy grunting.
