What's the ettiqette(sp?) for chicken pox and School run?

It looks like my dd2 (10 months) has the pox. She was with her cousin last week the day before his spots appeared.
My 'main' question is, as dp is away can i still drop off dd1 at School tomorrow if i don't go in the class? If i just drop her at the classroom door? (All the classroom doors lead to the playground where we drop them anyway but i usually go in and hang up her coat!

Also, please reassure me that chicken pox is usually harmless as i read today about someone dying of comlpications (on another thread, how's that for bad timing?) and now i've got the heebiejeebies!

It is usually harmless. Dropping your DD1 should be fine if you keep your dD2 away from others. (especially mothers you know are pregnant etc).

I had to take DS2 out on a couple of occasions when he had it and I kept him in the buggy and warned people off if they came near. Going out willy nilly is not on but some things are unavoidable.

Thanks, i wouldn't like dd1 to miss her last 2 adys. I'll just stay outside and wanr all who come near!
Unfortuantely they were all cooing over her today (all dd's freinds) and 2 got cuddles! I hope they've not got infected. I thought it was harmless, dd1 had it no problem but reading about extrenmes i think!

Do you mean you'd have to take dd2 to the door too? Could you perhaps go in a little later so that the playground would be clear if so ? Otherwise ask another mum to either watch your dd2 while you rush dd1 in or take her in for you, if she'll go .

That is a very short incubation period - normally 10 days - 3 weeks. Complications are rare.

I'd let your dd1's teachers know that dd2 has chicken pox, so they can put a note up. And let the parents of the kids who cuddled her, know.

I gather kids are most contagious just before the spots break out ...

I think I'd arrive a little later and let the teacher know why. My ds was a lurgi carrier last week and we went in 10 mins late and incurred the wrath of school secretary but as soon as I explained ds was likely to have vomitted in play ground and surrounding area she mellowed. He is now fit and well

Could you take DD1 down to school and arrange for one of the other mums to take her in?

O.K, i'll se if i can get my mam to watch dd1 for 10 minutes (though i doubt it as she's usually far too busy with my nephews!), and if she can't i'll take her in late. That's a good idea.

I was actually thinking am i over reacting! I'll see how many spots she has in the morning as i'm not even sure yet, i just saw them and immediately thought chicken pox as i knew her cousin had had them.

I'm taking her to School at 9.15 and the Secretry is coming out to take dd1 inGood idea LIZS.
They won't think dd1 is infectious will they? (she had it already but dp just said,'what if they think dd1 is carrying it?'

Surely i'm not expected to quarantine them both!!
