10 month old vomiting..do i give bed time milk..conflicting advice..?

DS2 woke up half way through lunchtime nap and threw up his lunch. He then threw up a bit more later. Spoke to NHS Direct (as never had vomiting baby before!) and they said to feed, drink as normal so gave afternoon milk. Half an hour later he threw some of it up. The rest came up an hour later. He is completely fine and happy otherwise! Spoke to H/V and she said to starve him although unlikely to be able to with baby so to give him rice based stuff so gave him small bit of babyrice with water for tea (which he turned nose up..had a wee bit) and one rice cake which he had.

That's the background...the question is do I give him his milk at bed time or try to settle with water?

....i gathered that so wondered whether best to try and not give it at all. H/V suggested that but in the same breath said that he probably won't settle without it!?

I copntinued to give my 10 month old BM, even though he was bringing some of it back up. Some of it stayed and I think it helped him not to be dehydrated.
He also turned his nose up at anything else. This went on for over a week. (Though he was only sick for two or three days).
I feel for you (and him).

So try to put him to bed on just water?

Sorry if this is really silly questions but DS1 (almost 4) never threw up (aside from awful reflux in the first year) so I feel a bit of a novice when it comes to this!

Hello, when ive been in this situation, ive given my ds some watered down milk. So 2oz milk, 5/6oz water. (make up to however much you give)
I do this with the theory that my ds is getting some fluid and that water will be better absorbed than claggy milk.

Last time dd was vomiting I was told to carry on with milk as normal, I think they have changed the advice they give, but I personally would avoid it, or at over dilute it.
You could try Rice Milk, if you happen to have any at home, which I doubt!

That watered down idea sounds like the way to go. I've been giving him lots of water as suggested and luckily (so far) he is taking it well.

I'm just preparing his bedroom with tons of change of clothes/bedding/nappies etc etc...it's going to be a long night!

Ah good luck, its such a worry when they are poorly. Im not saying that your baby will keep it down as my ds didnt always, its just gentler i think.

Thanks! Sounds just horrible when he is being sick but aside from a little moaning he then carries on playing! Expect it will be different tonight!

I was also told by the docs that their advice had recently changed on this, and it was better to keep offering babies/children milk / water, gentle "foods" despite possibility of throwing it all back again - as some of the goodness / liquid will be absorbed, and they generally need every little bit of energy they can get their hands on...

my ds has gone to a bed swaddled in towels for the last 4 nights since he flooded his bed with vomit the other night!
I just didnt know where to start, DH dunked him in the bath (at 11pm at night) while i striped his bed and filled the washing machine AGAIN!
Luckily, they recover very very quickly and regain lost fluids and weight just as fast.

My DH said earlier than thank goodness DS2 is a big chap as times like this he needs the extra weight!

gave him diluted milk...he didn't have much though...most unimpressed by it! Just put him to bed so fingers crossed!
