chickenpox, help PLEASE

Too rushed to check old threads
DD is 4 and last night it was apparent she had c/pox smattering of spots, beginning to crust. She was OK today, no temp to speak of, ate pretty well, was OK in oatmeal bath. Tonight she is v tired and wild with pain says it's most painful around her bottom (the site of the first spot was just outside her vagina and I think she now has quite a few there). She will not let me put calamine on, says it's too cold and has now got full-blown hate on it, but has tolerated diprobase on her trunk.
How can I get her through the night? Have given calpol and piriton. To reduce inflammation, just gave small dose of ibruprofen which I know isn't recommended but jeez, i don't know what else I can do. She sounds like a wild animal, it's very distressing

oh bp i really feel for you. calamine cream is a little better, but not sure where you'll get it at this time of night. why can't you give a whole dose of ibuprofen?

ds had chickenpox the week before i gave birth to dd. we had 2 grim nights & a horrid day inbetween, but after that he was fine. so you should be through the worst of it soon. good luck.

I read somewhere (NHS website I think) not to do ibruprophen for c/pox bcs of connected risk of I've forgotten what

I know you just want to know how to get her through tonight, but for tomorrow you might want to go out and get some Eurax cream - it's very good at stopping the itching.

is she still awake? have you tried getting her to do the calamine herself?

i have to say, if she is really in that much discomfort i would hold her down and apply it... she won't like it, but it'll ease the itching and let her get some sleep...

Yep - Eurax lotion was FANTASTIC when dd had chicken pox - she stopped scratching straight away.

my DS was like this on Friday night - it was awful at the time but it did pass quite quickly and when he woke up, he seemed much better.
He wouldn't take any Piriton the whole week and survived on Medised. I would give her the nurofen and just hang in there - thank God they don't last long - we've had a bloody awful week

sympathise with you. Ds has chicken pox. The spots started yesterday so I know that it will get worse. I am in the last stages of gastric flu and ds has had gastric flu, then an ear infection and now chicken pox! It seems like there is so much illnes around at the moment.

I hope that your dd is ok.

Is it ok to give medised or calpol if they have chicken pox?

emily, I wish you the best. Don't double up medised and calpol, they're both paracetamol based.
Wow, thanks be to MN and the emergency tips gleaned here. We got Eurax cream today and I just slathered it over her after the bath, and it seems to have had an instant reaction. DD called it 'magic cream'. It seems too good to be true. Amazing.
