Poor little thing has a horrible cold - as 8 weeks old is too young for calpol, is there anything I can do for him?

Poor love, well put a towel under the head end of his mattress so that it raises slightly - this helps breathing.

If excess mucus is a problem pop to the chemist and ask for saline nose drops, these can be dropped in the nose to soften hardened mucus, it's also possible to get an aspirator which will suck the softened mucus out, if needs be.

Calpol will only help a temperature, Medised helps with runy noses and sleep at night as it has antihistamine in, but I think your boy would be too young for that just yet (something for later, perhaps)

Hope he feels better soon, Mia

put a bowl of water under the radiator to keep the room from becoming dry

you can also smear a little vicks vapo rub or karvol on a wet flannel and put it over the radiator - as long as the radiator is not too near his cot or you dont put too much vicks/karvol on the flannel

im not sure but i think its ok to use the karvol vapouriser thingy if you put it in the hall outside baby's bedroom (your chemist would know)

speak to your local friendly chemist or phone your hv if she is nice

my dd2 had the cold when she was 5 weeks so i understand your nightmare - i ended up co-sleeping with her as she would sleep better that way

I used to "steam" my babies - run the shower on full, and let them hang out in the bathroom while it got all steamy. Seems to help.
