It is virtually impossible to describe what ds does. He bares his teeth like this and makes a sort of noise like a cross between a grunt and that noise tennis players make as they hit the ball. At the same time he slightly bobs his head to the side and tenses his hands (if his hand happened to be against your skin, you'd get a nasty pinch). He does it often enough that everytime we've talked about it you only have to wait a short while before he does it again.

We've booked a gp appointment, because hv not available when we are, and we have it on film (by chance) just in case it doesn't happen while we're in the surgery.

Has anyone else ever heard of such a thing? Do you think it is worth worrying about?

I know this may sound daft but could it be trapped wind? Or not so trapped wind.

To be honest I've never heard of anything like it so I'm only guessing. Pleasant discription though.

Sounds like a poo to me! I would get it checked out if you're worried though. ?constipation

We thought it was a poo at first - and every time he did it we would check his nappy. But he's had no problems in that direction at all, and this has been going on some time now. I like the idea of wind (although it never results in wind), but dp reckons not. Hmmm. Any more ideas?

Is he just concentrating on doing something like crawling, you know like thinking about it?

fisil both my DSs have done this (probably at about the same age as yours), we have always just put it down to teething and didn't really worry about it. Like you we have it on film (DS1 as he did it loads more than DS2) and it always makes us laugh, I would be very interested to hear what your GP says though as now you have got me thinking - maybe it wasn't teething?

is it sort of like a dog growling noise? my dd2 does this, cracks me up, cos she is zooming round the living room at the time.

Demented - that was exactly what I wanted to hear. I guess my biggest concern was that it was something he was stuck with - but I feel much better knowing he'll grow out of it. I've never guessed when he's teething - we've been through it six times already (OK, 5 as 2 came through at once) so there could be more on there way!

Jenie, I wondered about concentration - we're currently trying to look for a pattern in when he does it - we think it might be connected to tiredness.

Misdee - LOL, yeah he does that too, and it makes us laugh. Sometimes he blows raspberries too. This is a different noises, kind of sharper and angrier.

Thanks for your thoughts.
