Just in case anyone is interested in my neck lump, here's an update.....

I know a few of you lovely ladies were watching my thread about 5 weeks ago about my neck lump, so here's an update:

After the good MRI results I went back to the consultant, who had one feel and disagreed with them!!! Shock The lump had grown rapidly and should not have done, so I had a biopsy taken. 2 weeks wait only to be told it had failed. A second one taken with an ultrasound for guidance and I had a call last week to say that it had come back "inconclusive" Angry

So I asked to be referred to another consultant who I went to yesterday. He seemed a really nice guy and far more knowledge about this than the last one.

I have a rapidly growing tumour in my left parotid gland. The bit I can feel is just the edge of it and it looks huge on the scan pictures!! He was very honest and said that at the moment (well the scan was 17th September) the pictures show no "leakage" to connecting tissues, so it looks benign, but he wants to treat it as "suspiscious" until it is out and has been tested fully, especially due to the rapid growth. So I am waiting for a date for "urgent" surgery, which apparently should be within the next 6 weeks.

Its been a tough few weeks, but now I feel more relaxed knowing that something positive is being done and I have an ending in sight for this. I had wanted to avoid surgery, but it is the only way out now, so the sooner it is done the better and I can move on withb life. If it is malignant, then I will cope with that when/if I have to.

Thanks for all your support and positive vibes!! Grin

Oh, I remember your thread. So glad to see that it has been treated seriously and you are getting good treatment at last.

Good luck for the surgery.

abr1de · 26/10/2010 09:23

Good luck!

stepfordwife · 26/10/2010 09:26

sending you lots of positive thoughts

CerealOffender · 26/10/2010 09:27

glad you are feeling more positive but 6 weeks is outrageous for 'urgent' surgery

sharbie · 26/10/2010 09:29

Mum72 · 26/10/2010 09:35

Hi Positive ...you sound ...very positive! It sometimes helps hugely just having a game plan and this gives you a chance to get everyone organised as much as possible at home. Just a thought as I agree with cereal, 6 weeks is a long time to wait for urgent surgery, phone up his secretary and say you would be happy to take a cancellation if that is at all practical. Keep posting and let us know when you get a date.

Surgery Saturday 13th November. 2 weeks today!!! EEeeeeeeekkkkk!!!

Goodness - I'm sorry, I have only just seen this.
How annoying that you had been told the results were fine and then to be told they weren't necessarily, after all - it's brilliant though that you have a great team onside and they are talking to you and involving you.

From what he said about it being self contained that is a really good sign - and remember that the massive majority of parotid tumours ARE benign. Smile

So the stats are deffo on your side.

Will be rooting for you on the 13th - sooner out the better, I think!

Chocaholic73 · 30/10/2010 11:24

Another one rooting for you Positive, will think of you on 13th. Do you know how long you will be in hospital? If you can, (and I know it's not easy), the thing to do is to focus on what you need to do at home in the next 2 weeks for the moment. Keep positive and keep posting!

twentyoneagain · 30/10/2010 18:17

Positive - I have just scanned the CF thread and saw Choc's post about you.

I am so sorry you are going through this and will be thinking of you all the way. Glad you got another referral and it is being treated seriously.

Stay strong and it will soon be over. As Choc says keep focused on what you have to do. Please keep us posted.

phipps · 30/10/2010 18:19

Good grief!

I hope it does turn out to be nothing.

I am currently doing battle with my GP as he says I am fine and I need to trust him. I do trust him but I am not fine.

Good luck for 2 weeks time.

PositiveAttitude · 30/10/2010 21:15

Thank you all for your lovely comments, they are much appreciated. Suffering today, in pain and feel rotten, but hopefully tomorrow will be better.
Hi to 21 Smile

phipps, if you think there is something wrong, keep on until you get a proper check over. I knew something was wrong at the beginning of August, but just could not put my finger on what it was. I thought I would seem really daft going to the Dr without anything to say really other than "something is not right" Hmm It was a month later I felt the lump for the first time.

OP posts:
phipps · 30/10/2010 21:21

I asked him to explain why I felt the way I did if he said there was no problem and he said he wishes people wouldn't google, would trust their GP and sometimes medicine can't be explained Hmm.

PositiveAttitude · 30/10/2010 21:31
Hmm

phipps · 30/10/2010 21:35

I know.

Don't know what to do really.

PositiveAttitude · 30/10/2010 21:41

Can you go to see another Dr?

OP posts:
phipps · 30/10/2010 21:47

I tried that when I didn't want to wait 3 weeks to discuss my results and he gave me a bollocking and refused to help me.

Thinking of you Positive and hoping you feel better than yesterday.

Fififi · 31/10/2010 18:11

Hi Positive - am really wishing you well here...and reeling at the similarities in our lives ( full story on the CFC thread).

Will be thinking of you in the run up to your surgery.

xx

whomovedmychocolate · 31/10/2010 18:14

Glad you have a plan PA. One of my friends had a tumour there discovered in pregnancy, in her case it was major surgery, chemo and radiotherapy for a year and she's just got the all clear. But she survived.

PositiveAttitude · 31/10/2010 18:59

Thank you all.

WMMC, I am glad your friend is ok now. I am hoping that the radiotherapy/chemo wont be needed.

whomovedmychocolate · 31/10/2010 19:13

She actually had her baby early because of this and she was very sick for a few months, but has now fully recovered. I'm sure it'll be contained if it is malignant but just take it a bit at a time and you'll be fine. :)
