Anyone tried this for babies, and what did you think?

Theres quite a long thread here .

Personally I found it worked wonders for DD when she has colic and was a ventouse delivery. Will defintely be having DD2 looked at. Although last time I got an appointment with Princess Di's osteopath...connections have since gone down so will have to do with the local quack

We did this for some time via a SEN charity in London N19 with someone who had trained and worked at the centre in Harley St. Personally I thought it was mumbojumbo but we still got something good out of it, my son liked it and he found it relaxing. I think it helped him learn more about this type of setting - room with bed/chair and person comes up and "does something" to you - and generalised it to the hairdressers and dentists. I would say try it as long as you don't spend more than you can afford or get stressed by too much travel. Let us know what happens.

I thought it was good for lottie. Is sacro-cranial the same as just cranial?? My head doc at the hospital who see and assess Lottie every few months said she thought is was a load of rubbish but as long as I didn't spend a fortune and we both seemed to enjoy it there was no harm.

I tried this with dd, who had reflux. Both her childminder and myself saw a difference in her feeding after sessions. Coincidence or not I don't know but the fact both of us noticed makes me think there is something in it.

The woman we went to was a trained physio and other things also, so felt she must know what she is doing. Although when dd cried and she told me that was her releasing the tension I did find it hard to swallow, but... definitely worth a go.

I was looking into it for my dd and the big thing I was told was to make sure they are registered - originally they did not have to be registered and so anyone could set up shop.

Friend swears by it for his daughter...

I was going to ask same question as thomcat ie is it the same as cranial osteopathy? if so, I had it done on DS as he had absolutely horredous colic, it did help but it wasn't a miracle cure. I had difficult labour and ventouse delivery.

Motherinferior - Tried for dd1 and it was fantastic, she had never slept for more than an hour at a time and use to scream everytime i laid her down flat. After one visit she was already noticable better, they noticed that a small part of her vertebrae (is that how you spell it?) was slightly out of line at the back of her neck (due to a very long, distressing labour) and everytime she was put down they grated together causing her pain. We literally heard it pop as they gently pressed it back into place (no tears from her) and we only needed one more visit after that. Do try it, it would be the best advice i could give any mother.

Didn't do much with ds1, but was a bloody marvel with ds2. The osteopath asked if he ever had a chesty cough, I said no never, she said he was very glued up in his chest, I kind of shrugged, she did something with his chest. That night 2am he sat up and started coughing up thick thick mucus. Carried on bringing it up for 24 hours then was fine.

I was stunned!

yes for giving ds ability to look both to left and right when newsborn (head seemed to be stuck on one side). No to reflux, colic etc.

Put it this way ... I will be booking my cranial osteopath as soon as my baby is born! I think it did wonders for DS ...
The osteopath worked out exactly the lie of DS when in labour just by feeling his head, neck and shoulders ... I was astounded - he was spot on!

Wish I'd known about it for DS, who was very colicky for weeks after a rather violent forceps delivery. No one told me about it and I was at the mercy of grandmothers banging on about wind & HV trying to stop me breastfeeding DD didn't need it but if DS2 shows any of the same symptoms, I'll be round there like a shot

Dont know if this is the same or similiar to a chiropractor which i took dd to since she was 8wks old.she never slept during the day,had colic, what we thouhgt was reflux but what she discovered to actually be was an allergy to milk(dd is now on soya milk and no longer sick). The chiropractor done emotional work on dd and discovered the most amazing things and resolved them them(too many to go into but all to do with separation with P and his rejection of dd)From the first session dd was showing improvment,i brought her home lay her on the sofa and she slept for 2 hours. She was born extremely fast,i was examined at 7am was 5cm dilated,dd was lying on the bed at 7.04am so she was very traumatised by this but again all this has been resolved by chiropratic.Totally amazing stuff.

Thank you. Yes, osteopathy and chiropractic are different but similar IYKWIM; and in fact practitioners in both disciplines now have to be registered/regulated, but of course that doesn't guarantee you'll get someone decent, you have to quiz them as well (I wrote an article on complementary therapies, access to on the NHS, a while back, which means I still get bombarded with press releases from one of Prince Charles's outfits...).

Thank you SO MUCH. At the moment I'd try pretty well anything!

Call Soupdragon in E Dulwich, there's a lovely woman there who also practises at the Harley St Children's Osteopathy place. didn't seem to improve sleep at all, but ds loved her and it has to be worth a try. I know how you feel. I was so desperate I nearly spent zillions on a maternity nurse but dh put his foot down about spending three weeks with a bossy Frenchwoman who was clearly used to rather grander homes than ours!

Mind you, I'm going to get my bluff called if she concludes that my dippyhippy home waterbirth traumatised the little angel into colic, aren't I ...

Sorry for late posting but I have relevant experience! I too had a dippyhippywaterhomebirth(!) which produced a screaming baby who ended up in hospital (Doh!) as he was so anxious and jittery they wanted to test him for meningitis! They also thought he displayed typical symptoms of a baby born withdrawing from the drugs of a junkie mother (I had even quit SMOKING for this pregnancy goddammit....). Anyhow after all that trauma we too took him to a cranial osteopath. He had 3 treatments and he did undergo a complete sea-change at around 6 weeks and went from nightmare baby to "spirited" baby to quote the Baby Whisperer! I feel sorry for those guys because I will never know if it would have happened anyway, but put it this way - the treatments certainly did no harm and you could actually see the baby relaxing under the therapist's touch. Go for it I say...
